At the end of this workshop, you will:

• Be more proficient in identifying the different types of mental and emotional disorders seen in clinic.

• Understand the various forms of diagnoses that can apply for each of the mental and emotional disorders; and then how to treat those disorders.

• Have a greater insight into the importance of acupuncture point combinations.

• Feel like you now have the tools to construct your own acupuncture point combinations for mental and emotional disorders.

• Have been taken through Chinese medicine concepts that are new to you; something you had forgotten you knew and are therefore reminded of again; or for consolidating knowledge already known.

• Have a better understanding of a range of different Chinese medicine/philosophy concepts that tie in with the treatment of patients with mental and emotional disorders.

Workshop Structure:

Friday 6th Jun – 9.30am-5.30pm

9.30am-10.45am – Theory – Part 1 (75 minutes)

• Introduce the lecturer David Hartmann and the workshop
• Philosophical and historical look at emotions and mental health – Chinese, Greek & Roman
• Case study #1 – not every patient wants to get better?

11am-12.30pm – Theory – Part 2 (90 minutes)

• Heart, Shén, and Pericardium acupuncture point combination
• Figure Eight

• Case study #2 – a woman who couldn’t accept complements (Heart Shield)

12.30pm-1.30pm – Lunch

1.30pm-2.45pm – Practical – Part 1 (75 minutes)

• Participant practical. Break up into groups of 2-4 people for each massage table
• This is the opportunity to practice what you have just been taught. Feel free to perform
treatments, receive treatments, and observe treatments.

2.45pm-3pm – Afternoon break

3pm-4.15pm – Theory – Part 3 (75 minutes)

• Wǔ Shén – Hún, Shén, Yì, Pò, Zhì, Hún-Pò Axis, and Shén-Zhì Axis.
• Case study #3 – Opposites Attract/Hún-Pò
